You can choose one from our network of pre-qualified lawyers or hire an attorney outside of our network and get a portion of the costs reimbursed.1 The North Carolina State Bar is responsible for registering prepaid legal plans in North Carolina. A prepaid plan must be registered with the North Carolina State Bar before it can operate in North Carolina and before a North Carolina licensed attorney can provide legal services to prepaid plan participants. (See Article 84-23.1 of the North Carolina General Statute.) The North Carolina State Bar does not approve prepaid plans registered with its office. Registration of a prepaid plan should not be construed as an endorsement of the prepaid plan. The Prepaid Plan Advisor reviews the registration documents for the annual renewal of prepaid plans to determine if all annual registration information and annual registration fees have been received. 1. All changes to prepaid plans must be submitted to the State Bar no later than 30 days after acceptance of the changes.

Amendments must be presented in the same way as the initial registration on a form provided by the Public Prosecutor`s Office. Changes can only be made after the amended plan is saved in accordance with .0306. The form for registering changes to prepaid plans can be found here. In addition, the North Carolina State Low does not have the authority to regulate prepaid plans. However, the North Carolina State Bar regulates the conduct of lawyers who provide legal services to prepaid plan members. Section 84-23.1 of the North Carolina General Act requires all prepaid plans registered with the North Carolina State Bar Association to submit their plan information to the North Carolina Department of Insurance to determine whether the prepaid plan should be regulated by the North Carolina Department of Insurance. 2. The prepaid plan consultant shall inform the plan holder or sponsor of the measures taken by the Public Prosecutor`s Office regarding the registration of amendments within 60 days of receiving them. 3. The Prepaid Office of the Attorney`s Office will review the original registration statement of the plan to determine whether the registration statement is complete and whether the plan, as described in the registration statement, meets the definition of a prepaid legal services plan and otherwise meets the registration requirements of Regulation .0304. 1. An initial registration statement must be filed with the North Carolina State Bar Association addressed to Prepaid Plans Counsel, PO Box 25908, Raleigh, NC 27611.
