Legal Self Help Marin County

We are here to help Marin residents with housing, employment and health issues. California Courts Self Help Center – This is the website of the California Judicial Council of Self-Help Services. Information is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese. This tool provides assistance with family law, minor claims, domestic violence, elder issues, traffic problems, evictions, bankruptcy, conservatories, guardianship, and many other types of cases. Click here In recent years, many legal self-help programs have become available on the Internet. Several web tools under California law are available on LSHS or are accessible from anywhere. Legal Self Help Services (LSHS) offers free assistance to those who do not have a lawyer. Due to the high number of court users, services are provided personally on a first-come, first-served basis. LSHS does not offer services by phone or by appointment.

Services include: reception, information and referral to legal advice partners, individual assistance in the preparation of legal documents; bilingual legal support and reference materials for non-English speakers; support for self-directed legal research; and coordinating volunteers and interns who provide direct client service. LSHS offers one-on-one support to self-represented litigants. LSHS uses a variety of web-based tools available in multiple languages to help litigants prepare their legal documents. There are many self-help resources in easy-to-understand legal publications and on the internet for Californians. LSHS maintains a library of written resources, such as the Nolo Press books, that can explain complex processes in lay language. Staff are also available to provide information on how to file different types of legal documents, serve opposing parties and explain court procedures and legal terminology, as well as provide advice to the public on how to prepare for judicial appointments and what to bring. Free legal self-help services for the public, in English and SpanishOffice hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 9:00 to 12:00; Tuesday and Thursday, 09:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 15:00. In order to have enough time to get staff support and complete your paperwork, please come to their office at least 45 minutes before closing.
