Greenland Citizenship Requirements

Posted 18. Oktober 2022 by Logistik-Express in Allgemein

Because dual citizenship is complex and citizenship rules and laws vary from country to country, you should consult with qualified professionals, including accountants and lawyers with experience in citizenship matters. First, there is no such thing as Greenlandic citizenship. Greenland is part of Denmark, so you need to become a Danish citizen If you are a citizen of a country other than those listed above (or if you do not have a biometric passport when required), you can inquire about visa requirements to enter Greenland here. You can get a permanent residence permit in Greenland if you meet the following conditions: 18. In December 2014, Parliament passed a law allowing Danish citizens to become foreign citizens without losing their Danish citizenship and allowing foreigners to acquire Danish citizenship without renouncing their previous citizenship. A provision in the bill also allows former Danish nationals who have lost their citizenship because they have acquired another nationality to regain Danish citizenship. This provision expired in 2020. A separate provision, valid until 2017, allows current applicants for Danish citizenship who have obtained Danish citizenship on condition that they renounce their previous citizenship to retain their former citizenship when they become Danish citizens. The law entered into force on 1 September 2015.

[9] Immigrants who have committed crimes may be denied Danish citizenship. For example, immigrants who have been sentenced to one year or more, or at least three months, for crimes against an individual cannot obtain citizenship. Convictions that resulted in a fine also come with a time limit for immigrants to deny naturalization applications for up to 4.5 years after the fine. In the case of multiple infringements, the time limit is extended by 3 years. [5] In December 2018, the Danish Citizenship Act was amended to make a handshake mandatory during the ceremony. The regulation was passed in an effort to prevent members of the Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir from obtaining Danish citizenship, as many of them refuse to shake hands with people of the opposite sex. [3] Ownership: Another advantage of dual citizenship is the ability to own property in both countries. Some countries limit land ownership to citizens only, and as a legal citizen of two countries, you can buy real estate in one or both countries. If you travel frequently between the two countries, this can be especially useful, as the property offers a more economical way to live in two places.

In October 2011, the newly elected centre-left coalition government indicated its intention to allow dual citizenship. To qualify for a permanent residence permit as a former Danish citizen, you must also meet the normal requirements: citizenship is an extremely polarizing issue. Many people mistakenly think that a second passport is illegal. This is a myth. Ignorance and nationalist indoctrination have perpetuated the stigma that getting a second passport is somehow “grey” or completely illegal worldwide. Many people have dual citizenship, and you can do that. So your next question will be: How do I get a second passport? The fastest and most direct way to get a second passport (no matter who your parents are, where you were born or where you live) is through an officially recognized citizenship program, perhaps there will be a Greenlandic citizenship program in the future. Another way to obtain second Greenland citizenship is citizenship by residence. Almost all developed countries have laws that a long-term resident can be naturalized after a certain period of time.
